Vortex News & Information / Vortex Update
« on: July 25, 2019, 09:49:00 AM »
Greetings everyone! My goodness has a lot happened since we last wrote a post on the forums.

We have transitioned our main form of communication to Discord. If you are looking to join Vortex, please join us on our Discord. There you can can find all the information you need to get in touch with the current officer team, and apply for the Raid team, or to get an invite and join us as a more casual member.

As far as an actual update for the curious, we did manage to get CE Jaina, and even got a reclear for the whole raid roster to get the achievement (and a second mount!)  We're trudging our way through the current tier and are always looking for active members. We are currently not accepting new applications for the forums, so if you want to join our conversation, head on over to Discord.

May your loot be epic, and banks be full.

Vortex News & Information / Vortex Smelts Opulence! (4/9M)
« on: March 10, 2019, 06:52:02 PM »

Hello Vortex!

After trying out a few different strats, and an extra week of farm bosses we claimed our kill on Opulence.

Opulence requires the raid to split into two even groups, one to take out In'zashi (on the left), and to take out Yalat (on the right.) Both golems have very similar mechanics. Each golem has it's own health pool, so you need to dps each one down the same. Each room the golems occupy have some trap you have to deal with, and at every 10% they move to the next room. In one of the rooms the raid gets the opportunity to steal some gems to increase the damage done to the boss. The gems we primarily take advantage of are the ruby, which leaves a stacking debuff on the boss that increases damage done, and Amethyst which applies a buff on our raiders that reduce incoming shadow damage by 90%. Any dps who don't have the privilege of providing the ruby buff take Opal which increases the damage they deal for each add they hit. Tanks take a diamond, which applies a shield buff and further reduces the damage they take.

Once you start fighting Opulence the key things to watch out for are Liquid gold, and Coin Shower. liquid gold needs to be moved as far from the boss and spawn of the adds as possible. if an add gets in a liquid gold puddle, they start healing and moving much faster. Coin shower is a physical damage attack that goes on a player and splits damage for anyone in 7 yards of the target, this was easily manageable with our plethora of immunities, and paladins with BoP, just needed to make sure no one was within 7 yards of the person using the immunity, or they would get squashed.

Have our eyes set on Conclave, and with minimal changes from Heroic to Mythic, should be expecting fewer pulls for a kill.

Vortex News & Information / Vortex Snuffs Jadefire Masters! (3/9M)
« on: February 26, 2019, 01:53:08 PM »

Sorry for the delay everyone, between work, and family free time has been short this week.

Hello Vortex! Last Tuesday after swiftly dispatching Champions and Grong, we also killed Jadefire masters.

This fight features 2 mobs that do not share health, a Mage that is constantly throwing fireballs at the tanks and stacking a nasty debuff, and a monk that mostly has raid mechanics, but the tanks swap each boss with the fire debuff.

The non intermission phases for the fight is pretty easy, healers have fire that needs to be dispelled (Thanks Mass Dispell and Revival), the mage will teleport and cast a pyroblast which the dps needs to switch to because he has a shield, and then interrupt the cast, the monk also jumps away, but just needs to be smacked with a melee attack to stop, and lastly the monk will do a multi sided strike that takes everyone but 1 tank, and 1 healer into the air and you have to to a quick camera minigame to prevent yourself from dying.

The fist intermission phase creates 3 orbs that explode and do raid damage, has a beam that needs to be dodged, and has a fog around it that prevents LoS to things outside the fog to inside the fog.

The second intermission, the monk creates a maze of rings of peace. We had some key high mobility classes, like mage, warlock and DH grab the orbs by going over the maze to make a wall vulnerable that we have to kill before an ox runs us over.

The last phase the bosses turn into dragons and you have to burn them down before things get out of control.

The strategy that we used was to burn the monk down, only damaging the mage when he was casting Pyroblast. This prevents one cast of multisided strike and made the last phase a lot less hectic.

We have our eyes set on Opulence and his trapped rooms and trinket that makes the wielders allergic to the rest of the raid group.

Vortex News & Information / Vortex Not Monkeying Around! (2/9 M)

Heellllllooooo Vortex. I have been elected as the officer to take care of our kill screens, and the all important post that you are reading right now.

Grong is the 2nd boss for the horde, while the alliance fights our Jadefire Masters. The basic mechanics of the fight is that Grong slowly gains rage throughout the fight, and does more damage depending on how much rage he has, if he gets full rage he does a Torment channel that does raid wide aoe, it pulses 4 times (one for each 25 rage) and puts a nasty dot for each pulse on to the raid. The way you counter this is with the most annoying part of this fight.

Mekkatorque thinks he's all clever and built Apetagonizer 3000 to cause Grong to gain more rage throughout the fight, while it apetagonizes Grong, it also spits out some pretty horrific voice lines. A simple interrupt order, and keeping Grong 15 yards from the bots prevents Grong from gaining any additional rage. When the bots die they leave an energized core on the ground that a member of the raid needs to pick up and throw at Grong. The key here is that whoever picks it up needs to be focused by the healers, and they need to throw the core at Grong and cause him to do his torment channel early.

The best timings for these was when Grong was at about 50% rage, only giving 2 stacks of the dot, and it often times synced with the tank bestial combo ability, interrupting it's cast which also prevents the raid from taking additional aoe damage.

The neat part of the fight that only 2 people care about, is the bestial combo. Grong swings at the tanks 3 times with 1 of 2 abilites, a bite that leaves a dot on the aggroed tank for 8 seconds, or a smash that deals a lot of damage, and leaves a debuff on the tank for 2 seconds that if he got hit by another smash immediately he'd die. After the combo he'd pick up a tank like they're some damsel in distress and throw it at a random raider and do aoe magic damage to the whole raid. Because we had 3 Paladins me and Phil elected to try and get the tossed tank the stacks of bite, and use BoP to remove all that damage, but healers still needed to top the tanks for the magic damage.

Whew that was a lot of information. You'll have to let me know if this is what's expected or if y'all want a more cliffnotes version of the fight.

Last thing that's worth mentioning is the kill went super smooth in typical Vortex fashion, not a single improvement could possibly made to our execution.
If you'd like to check out the last minute of our kill, I got a clip from my stream.

When I have time I'll try and edit a kill video together.
