Vortex News & Information / Re: Vortex Not Monkeying Around! (2/9 M)
« on: February 21, 2019, 01:03:04 PM »

Greetings, friends! With the launch Battle of Dazar'alor and the opening of Mythic, Vortex decided to take a break from our push through the Heroic version of the instance to give the first boss (Champion Frida) a try. This resulted in a quick 2-shot kill, and because so many top guilds are protecting their logs, the perception that we're also on the hunt for world firsts.

Frida (The boss in the Horde version of the raid) functions much as she does in Normal and Heroic, save that she will cast Prayer of the Fallen, necessitating that raiders be ready to avoid a bevy of damage and interrupt adds (Including Disciples that have already been killed!)

All in all a very fun encounter. Good work everyone!

Vortex News & Information / Vortex Masters Mythrax! (7/8 M)
« on: December 11, 2018, 10:22:49 PM »

While simultaneously battling the joys of updated addons and class changes with the launch of 8.1, Vortex took down Mythrax in his final form.

The fight changes in that Mythrax brings along his pal Xalzaix (Not to be confused with Xalilith), a Squidward-looking fellow who casts some of the same annoying beam abilities for which Mythrax was previously known to have a monopoly. Most of the changes involve stacking to place Xalzaix near the boss for cleaving in P1, and successfully managing Void Echoes in proper raid placement.

Great work, everyone! It's time to kill a slug!

Congratulations to Apoc!

Vortex News & Information / Vortex Zealously Vanquishes Zul! (6/8 M)
« on: November 29, 2018, 09:57:35 PM »

After progressing through Vectis and Fetid Devourer, Vortex turned our sights on Zul, and even worse, the trash before Zul so that we could put work towards polishing off the final few bosses of Uldir. As is usual, there were several changes between Normal/Heroic and the Mythic form of this boss, and some of the changes are particularly unpleasant. The Pools of Darkness must still be soaked, and the Corrupted Blood you get from soaking them (Or the raid gets from you NOT soaking them) never drops through the rest of the fight. Additionally, all of the adds regenerate once killed, unless they are affected by Decaying Flesh. A wholehearted shoutout to our dispellers for handling moving this to the correct targets.

While many guilds have killed this fight by making use of numerous Sub Rogues to cheese the non-dying Crawgs for a single target damage buff on Zul himself, due to us not running a stacked comp we did things perhaps the way Blizzard intended, actually killing most of the adds on our first kill. Thanks to everyone. Mythrax awaits!

Hello Vortexians!

Our steady progress in Mythic Uldir has taken a severe toll in repair costs and it is once again time to replenish the guild bank! To keeping makin' it rain, we will be holding our next installment of the Vortex 50/50 draw on Tuesday, December 11th!

What is a 50/50 draw?
You purchase a ticket or several tickets and we pick a winner through a draw.
The proceeds from the draw are then split. 50% for the winner, and 50% for the guild bank. The more people who play, the better the pot will get, so people are encouraged to contribute as much as their means allow.

Why are we doing this?
Aside from just being a fun thing to do, the main goal of this draw, is to put some gold into the guild bank. The guild bank has helped finance everyone in the guild (repairs, etc) so we hope everyone in the guild will participate. It is okay if friends who may not be part of the guild want to participate, as long as they have some tie to Vortex.

What will it cost?

The ticket prices are as follows:
1000g for an individual ticket
2500g for a group of 3 tickets

Those who wish to purchase tickets should send TORQUEMADA an in game mail with the gold amount, and the number of tickets you believe your gold sent purchases. Just in case, here is some clarification:

4 Tickets: 3500g  (2500g for the block of 3 + 1000g for the extra ticket)
6 Tickets: 5000g ( two groups of 3 tickets)

You can buy as many batches of tickets as you desire until the cutoff date (mentioned below).

Final thoughts
This draw is primarily a means of putting some money into the guild bank. The added bonus is that you can profit from it as well.
If you win the draw you can choose to donate your winnings to guild bank, but you cannot refuse the prize. You must take it for yourself or donate it back to the guild bank. It is not transferable.

Important Details

All Tickets must be purchased before 7:30pm Tuesday, December 11th, 2018. Torquemada may accept last minute purchases, but not without severe condemnation and indignity.

All tickets must be purchased by sending an in game mail to TORQUEMADA with your gold amount. The gold amount must be accompanied by a message telling me how many tickets you believe your gold will purchase so we are both clear on the amount of tickets you will have for the draw.

The draw will take place at 8:00pm on December 11th at the start of raid. All are encouraged to get in Discord as the draw happens. If you are unable to attend the draw and you win, your winnings will be mailed to or traded to you.

As a matter of transparency, all money that is received for the draw will be put directly into the guild bank so that people can track their amount. The total will be tallied and posted in this thread. The winnings will be 50% of the total collected, and will be paid out directly from the guild bank.

Any questions? Please ask.

Good Luck!

Current Total: 480,000g
Current Prize: 240,000g

In fairly quick fashion, Vortex has downed yet another new boss, this time the mythic incarnation of Fetid Devourer.

The changes to this version involve a host of changes to abilities so riddled with alliteration that they seem a tribute to the memory of Stan Lee.

In any event, the "adds" that spawn (Corruption Corpuscles and Mutated Masses) appear in groups of threes that have to be coordinated down before the Fetid can slurp them down like a medpac. Additionally, the Malodorous Miasma and Putrid Paroxysm attempt to spread much more insidiously to all targets in range. The Fetid Frenzy remains constant, yet also alliterative.

After just a few nights on this boss, we managed to rack up a kill with our first pull of the night. Good work, team! Time to start leveling Rogues for Zul!

The form doesn't appear to be showing up for my correctly. I'm only getting OPTION 1 as a response for the third question.

So instead, I'm posting my availability here: I'm free after work tonight (Friday) and will be online and/or in Discord after about 6PM-7PM EST until I go to bed. I will be available to talk Saturday morning-afternoon, but we're doing a game night tomorrow afternoon/evening. Sunday I am flexible.

Valiant vocals to vividly vouche for our vicious victory over Vectis.

Verifiably valid.

With just a few nights of solid work, Vortex applied copious amounts of cleaning solution to the blood stain left by our most recent conquest, Vectis.

As with most bosses, Vectis incorporates the previously learned requirements for Normal and Heroic, and adds a twist. On Mythic, Vectis gives out 4 different Omega Vectors, meaning that 4 separate groups are needed to manage the spread of communicable and infectious diseases. This is paramount, as the stacking debuff Lingering Infection gains some new spice. At 6 stacks, players who continue to receive stacks of Lingering Infection spread AOE damage and put additional Lingering stacks on their neighbors. At 12, gaining additional stacks means you spawn an Engorged Parasite, which is in itself a terrible proposition. Should a player managed to reach 25 stacks without dying (No small feat in and off itself), they will cause raid wide damage and die in spectacular yet mockable fashion.

Good work to everyone last night The joy for melee that is Fetid Devourer is all that stands between us and Mythic Zul trash!

Doesn't load.

I wrote it during Vectis trash...

Vortex spent the last week and a bit reacquanting ourselves with the Zek'voz, this time in his mythic and final form. In this version of the fight, the Nerubian Voidweaver adds can additional bit of awfulness, requiring coordination of stuns and CCs. Additionally, the rings of Surging Darkness pulse 4 times in total, with fun yet frustrating patterns to avoid.

Good work, everyone. The Vortex Extermination Service moves onward to handle a leech next!

Vortex News & Information / MOTHER's Day has come and gone! (2/8 M)
« on: September 29, 2018, 06:49:36 PM »

Fresh on the heels of our successes against Heroic G'huun and our reclear of Mythic Taloc, Vortex took on the second challenge of the Mythic Uldir raid: the Matron of Tenacity, Herald of Endless Research (M.O.T.H.E.R., henceforth referred to as MOTHER). MOTHER is a Titan construct designed to keep Uldir from falling completely to the pervasive corruption threatening it, and so puts you through your paces as she tries to burn away all the germs inconsiderate raiders bring inside her living space.

The fight is similar in nature to Heroic, except that when you move from room one to room two and from two to three, each role spawns specific adds DPS still spawn Remnants of Corruption, which have to be interrupted or stunned to stop their free casting, while the tanks crossing over the Defense Grid spawn Resistant Bacterium which buff the other spawns. The healers spawn Viral Contagion, which but a nasty debuff on players that has to be run out lest it spread.

The timing and spacing is a bit tight, particularly for the third chamber, with the wall and ceiling lasers being very reminiscent of a scene from the first Resident Evil movie.

Well done everyone! May our success continue with Xek'voz and the other bosses, and may Litto continue to get ridiculous amounts of BoE drops!
